Your Local Maeser Rodent Exterminator
Maeser, just south of downtown, is one of Provo's historic residential neighborhoods — early homes on tree-lined streets, many of them lovingly kept and some of them still running on infrastructure decisions made generations ago. That history is the rodent story here. A Maeser home may have been re-plumbed twice, wired three times, and had a furnace replaced more often than that. Every trade that came through drilled, punched, or cut a path through a wall or floor, and on older homes those penetrations — around pipes, vents, conduit, and flues — were sealed loosely or not at all. House mice do not need much: a gap the width of a pencil around a water line is an open door, and Maeser homes have them by the dozen.
The neighborhood's mature trees complete the access picture. Big canopy trees are part of what makes Maeser beautiful, and they also lean over rooflines across the neighborhood. A mouse that climbs a trunk walks a branch onto the roof, and older rooflines offer eave and soffit gaps opened by decades of settling and shingle work. Fall after fall, the pattern repeats: scratching in the ceiling in October, droppings in the attic by November. Meanwhile the older plumbing runs give mice protected highways from the crawl space to the kitchen walls, so signs appear indoors long before anyone checks the attic.
Our Maeser approach is built for older homes and for owners who care about them. The inspection is patient and complete — every penetration, vent, and seam, inside and out. Exclusion is targeted and material-matched, placed to work without scarring the house. And because some Maeser homes sit toward the bench side of the neighborhood, we identify whether droppings are house mouse or deer mouse before any cleanup, since deer mouse waste in Utah needs hantavirus-safe handling. History does not have to include mice.
Services Available in Maeser
Mice Control
House mice travel Maeser's old plumbing and wiring runs from crawl space to kitchen. We follow the runs, remove the mice, and seal the penetrations they commute through.
Mice control in Maeser →Rat Control
Rats are less common in Maeser but show up in detached garages, woodpiles, and older outbuildings. We clear the animals and close the ground-level openings they are using.
Rat control in Maeser →Rodent Removal
Removal of active infestations and of dead rodents in walls and ceilings — in a historic home, working carefully around lath, old wiring, and finished spaces matters as much as the removal itself.
Rodent removal in Maeser →Rodent Exclusion
Penetration-by-penetration sealing for older homes: pipe and line entries, vents, eaves, and soffits, closed with the right material for each opening and placed to stay invisible from the street.
Exclusion in Maeser →Attic Rodent Control
Tree-to-roof access is the Maeser pattern. We clear attic mice and nesting, clean droppings safely — with deer mouse identification first — and seal the roofline and vent entries.
Attic control in Maeser →Rodent Inspection
A slow, complete inspection for older construction: crawl space, foundation, every utility entry, attic, and roofline, with findings and priorities in plain language.
Inspection in Maeser →Why Maeser Calls Us
- Older-home experience: repeat renovations, old plumbing runs, and settled rooflines are our everyday work, not an exception.
- Sealing that respects the house: effective exclusion, placed carefully, without changing how a historic home looks.
- Species identified before cleanup: deer mouse waste gets hantavirus-safe handling — never a broom and a dustpan.
- Prevention-first advice: tree trimming, vent checks, and a fall walk-around list so each autumn is not a repeat of the last.

Rodent Control FAQs for Maeser
Why do Maeser's historic homes get mice in the attic?
Two reasons: access and age. Maeser's mature street trees overhang and touch many rooflines, giving mice a bridge from the ground to the roof, and older homes have the small roofline and eave gaps that come with decades of settling and re-roofing. Once a mouse is on the roof of an older house, an entry point is usually within a short run.
Can exclusion work be done without damaging a historic home?
Yes. Sealing is mostly small, targeted work: screening vents, sealing pipe and line penetrations, closing eave and soffit gaps, and fitting door sweeps. It is done with materials matched to the opening and placed to be effective without changing how the house looks from the street — we are not stuccoing over your foundation or altering the exterior character of the home.
What should I check on my Maeser home before fall?
Trim branches back from the roofline, look at where the AC, gas, and water lines enter the house for gaps, check that crawl space and attic vents are screened and intact, and look along the foundation for cracks opened by settling. Fall is when deer mice and house mice test all of these at once, so a late-summer walk-around catches most problems while they are still cheap to fix.
Are the rodents in Maeser deer mice or house mice?
Mostly house mice inside the older homes, with deer mice appearing in homes closer to the bench side of the neighborhood. The distinction matters because deer mouse droppings carry a hantavirus risk in Utah and should not be dry-swept or vacuumed with a household vacuum. Identification during the inspection tells us how the cleanup needs to be handled.
